Optical sorter
Optical sorting, sometimes called digital sorting, is the automated process of sorting solid products using cameras or lasers. They are widely used in the food industry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, tobacco processing, waste recycling and other industries.
Depending on the types of sensors used and the software-driven intelligence of the image processing system, optical sorters can recognize objects’ color, size, shape, structural properties and chemical composition.
In waste and recycling, optical sorter can be used to identify and discard manufacturing waste, such as metals, drywall, cardboard or various plastics. For plastic industry, optical sorter can remove not only non-plastic materials but also different types of plastics by distinguishing resin types, such as HDPE, PVC, PLA, PE, and others.
Compared to manual sorting, which is subjective and inconsistent, optical sorting helps improve product quality, maximize throughput and increase yields while reducing labor costs.
